Tips: How to break 100 - Quick tips |
- Desire: Without the desire
you will not achieve your goals. But desire alone is not
enough. You must follow up with actions that will help you to
improve your golf game..
- Practice, Practice, Practice.
Hit about 200 balls a day. Remember, even the best players in the
world like Tiger Woods keeps on practicing every day.
- Consistency: Try to make
consistent solid contact on each shot. This will help your brain
and muscles to develop a memory and feel for "solid contact." In
turn, this will help you to know how far you can hit a particular
club consistently.
- Picture your swing: Get a
mirror image or picture of your swing in your mind. This will help
you to take the guess work out your mind. Having a picture of your
swing will also help you to know exactly where your hands, feet,
and other body parts are, in relation to the club at various
stages of your swing. All of this in turn will translate into
"CONFIDENCE." Confidence to execute your shots with total
confidence.
- Specific Goals: Set
specific goals within a specific time period. "If you don't
know where you are going you may end up some where else." -
Yogi Bera. Track and monitor your progress on each shot on each
game. This alone will reduce your score over time automatically.
"Everything monitored, and analyzed brings awareness and
automatic improvement." - Dr.B.F.Skinner, Psychologist.
See
also: How to set and achieve your goals like olympians.
- Simulate shots: Try to
simulate your practice shots as you would hit them on the course.
Simulating your shots will train your brain and muscles to have
good memory of what the shot feels like. Try to bring in pressure
elements such as, your friends watching you, water and other
troubles up ahead.
- Stress Management: One of
the best ways to deal with stress on the course is to develop a
routine and stick to it. Change if you must, but get a routine
that you feel comfortable with and execute it on each shot. Watch
the pros on TV every weekend and you will see them execute their
routine even on short putts. The reason for this is very simple.
It puts them in an automatic mode or mind set which helps them to
block out the crowds, their playing partners, the noise around
them and yes even the nerves in the hands and the knees.
- Picture / Visualize Your Shots: "I never hit
a shot unless I can clearly see it" says Jack Nicklaus. Tiger
Woods and most of the top PGA pros subscribes to this idea as well.
You must see it and believe it before you can execute it. If you
can't see it, then you are hitting and hoping and as Yogi Bera
says, "if you don't know where you are going, you may end up
somewhere else." Get a clear picture of your shot and hit it
under 5 seconds. If you don't, you will start to doubt and loose
the picture, says psychologist Dr. Peter Davis.
- Competition: This brigs out
the natural competitive spirit in you. More competition means that
you will feel more comfortable under competitive situations. Play
at least one game a week and one tournament per month.
- Equipment: Get the one that
feels right for you. Today's golf equipment technology is so good,
that without the brand name on the club, you will not be able to
tell the difference between a $99.00 driver Vs a $1,000.00 driver.
However, golf is all about confidence. Some golfers do mind what
their friends think about them and the price of their golf
equipment.
- Coaching: Get a golf
teacher that you feel comfortable with. Remember that even the
best golfer in the world...Tiger Woods have a coach.
- Fitness: Golfers are
athletes and athletes must have a fitness program to keep their
muscles fit and flexible.
- Food And Nutrition: Weather
you are a weekend golfer or a professional tour player, nutrition
plays a vital role on how different kinds of food affects your
brain and muscle functions during a game. Basically complex
carbohydrates, fiber, and porteins will help you to maintain a
faily even blood sugar level. This in turn will help your brain
and muscles to function in harmony. Simple carbohydrates and foods
rich in process sugars will put your brain and muscles on a roller
coaster ride and affect your thinking and execution of your shots.
See low carbohydrate foods list here...
- Fun: Having fun on the golf
course means that you are enjoying the game with your friends.
They can see your great shots and cheer you on. But the other
benefits of having fun is also, that you will be more relaxed and
you will play better. This is because your muscles will be relax
and more flexible to execute your shots without tension. Finally,
if you are not having fun, most people may not even want to play with
you again. Is it worth it not to have fun? I think not.
How to find your strengths and
weaknesses:
In order for a mechanic to fix a
problem on your car he must first find out what is the problem and
what's causing the problem, then he can come up with some solutions.
In the same way you need to find out
where you are loosing the most shots. To do this you will need to
keep track of some basic statistics of your game such as: fairways
hit (FH), greens in regulation (GIR), and putts per round (PPR).
On the score card below you will see
these shown on the left column. Fill them out for each game that you
play and simply watch you score drop like as you progress from game
to game.

| Notes:
Notice that in this example you did
not make any pars or birdies. You made bogey's on the par 3's
and par 5's and double bogeys on most of the par 4's. Chances
are however, that you may make a few pars and maybe a birdie. On
the other hand you may also have a tripple or two on some
rounds.
Basic Plan Of Attack
The main point that I want to
emphasize here, is, that it is possible to break 100 if you
have a specific plan for each shot on each hole. Just
"PICTURE" the shot and hit it, regardless of your skill level.
Why? Because your brain and
muscles will work together to give your mind what it wants. Your
mind is the master. Your brain and muscles are it's servants.
In the same way that an American
born in America learns to speak english naturally or a German
born in Germany learns to speak German naturally the mind
understands "Pictures" naturally, it is easier than just words.
"PICTURES are the language of the mind. This is already
programmed in our DNA. This is how we humans were created. Like
NIKE says...JUST DO IT!
A typical Tiger Woods plan of
attack on most golf courses is simply this: Attack the par 3's
and par 5's to make birdies and play the par 4's conservatively
to make pars. In other words fairways and greens and two putt
for par. I believe that you can adapt the same plan for your
game and shoot under 100 consistently.
How to play the par 3's:
Because these holes are short you can reach the green with the
right club selection. So be aggressive and go for the flag if
you feel you can, if not aim for the middle of the green and try
to, two putt for your par. Even if you miss the green, you can
chip and take two putts, make bogey on both par 3's and still
shoot under 100.
How to Play the par 4's:
The par 4's are reachable
with two shots. If you don't get on the green with two shots,
then you must rely on your chipping and putting to help you. You
will notice that on most of the par 4's I gave you a double
bogey. This means that you can take three shots to get on the
green and three putts to finish most holes and still shoot under
100.
How to play the par 5's:
There are two par 5's on this course, one on the front nine and
one on the back nine. Like Tiger Woods, you should always plan
to attack them to lower your score. The par 5's on our example
is reachable in three shots. However, even if you get on the
green in four shots, you can still take two putts and shoot
under 100.

Golf Tips: How to break
90 - By: Peter Ganesh |
| Focus: Short
Game And Distance Control.
The short game is where you will shave the most shots
off your game.
Learn to hit half shots and control your distance
by gripping down on the club. When you learn how to control you
shots, you will have a better idea of where your shot will end up,
instead of hitting and hoping. |

you will not achieve your goals.
- Practice, Practice, Practice

mirror image of your swing

- Course Management: Have a
strategy for playing each hole. Know where you can and cannot miss
your shots. Know when to go for the pin or the center of the
green. Some pros will tell you that they just try to focus on
hitting fairways and greens.
- Confidence: Golf is all
about confidence. Confidence
comes from knowing that you can do something well under pressure.
In golf, you want to develop your confidence to hit any shot with
total confidence under pressure. To do this, you will need to
practice a lot and play as many tournaments as possible. This will
train your mind and muscles to to hit various shots under various
pressure situations.
- Fun: Having fun on the golf

They can see your great shots and cheer you on. But the other

| Notes:
Notice that in this example you did
not make any birdies. At this level you are now playing bogey
golf or one over par per hole on average. You made par on both
par 3's, you made par on one par 5 and you bogey the other one.
Chances are however, that you may make a birdie or two on your
round because your distance control is getting better and you
are able to hit closer to the pin more consistently now.
Even if you miss the green, you can
chip and take two putts, make bogey on both par 3's and still
shoot under 90.
How to Play the par 4's:
The par 4's are reachable
with two shots. If you don't get on the green with two shots,
then you must rely on your chipping and putting to help you. You
will notice that on most of the par 4's I gave you a double
bogey. This means that you can take three shots to get on the
green and two putts to finish most holes and 90.
How to play the par 5's:
There are two par 5's on this course, one on the front nine and
one on the back nine. Like Tiger Woods, you should always plan
to attack them to lower your score. The par 5's on our example
is reachable in three shots. However, even if you get on the
green in four shots, you can still take two putts and shoot
under 90.

Golf Tips: How to break 80
- by: Peter Ganesh |
| Focus:
Putting. One of the main secrets in
breaking 80 is mastering the putting game. This is why you will see
the PGA tour players spend most of there time on the putting green,
when they are getting ready for a tournament. |

| Golf Tips: How to break 80 -
Quick Tips |
- Desire: Without the desire
you will not achieve your goals.
- Practice, Practice, Practice
(Hit about 200 balls a day)
- Consistency: Try to make
consistent solid contact on each shot
- Know your swing: Get a
mirror image of your swing
- Specific Goals: Set
specific goals within a specific time period. "If you don't
know where you are going you may end up some where else." -
Yogi Bera Track and monitor your progress on each shot on each
game. This alone will reduce your score over time automatically.
"Everything monitored, and analyzed brings awareness and
automatic improvement." - Dr.Skinner, Psychologist.
See
also: How to set and achieve your goals like olympians.
- Simulate shots: Try to
simulate your practice shots as you would hit them on the course
- Stress Management: One of
the best ways to deal with stress on the course is to develop a
routine and stick to it. Change if you must, but get a routine
that you feel comfortable with.
- Visualization: "I never hit
a shot unless I can clearly see it" says Jack Nicklaus. Tiger
Woods and most of the top PGA pros subscribes to this idea as well
- Competition: This brigs out
the natural competitive spirit in you. More competition means that
you will feel more comfortable under competitive situations. Play
a least one game a week and one tournament per month.
- Equipment: Get the one that
feels and seem right for you
- Coaching: Get a golf
teacher that you feel comfortable with. Remember that even the
best golfer in the world (tiger Woods) have a coach.
- Fitness: Golfer are
athletes and athletes must have a fitness program to keep their
muscles fit and flexible.
- Course Management: Have a
strategy for playing each hole. Know where you can and cannot miss
your shots. Know when to go for the pin or the center of the
green. Some pros will tell you that they just try to focus on
hitting fairways and greens.
- Confidence: Confidence
comes from knowing that you can do something well under pressure.
In golf, you want to develop your confidence to hit any shot with
total confidence under pressure. To do this, you will need to
practice a lot and play as many tournaments as possible.

| Notes:
At this level you should make at least
two birdies per round. This is
because your confidence in your overall game is better. Your
putting is getting better so you are able to go up and down more
often and save par. Two putts per hole should be the norm
for par. You should be hitting at least 60% of the fairways and
80-90% of greens in regulation.

A typical Tiger Woods plan of

shoot under 79.
How to Play the par 4's:
The par 4's are reachable
with two shots. If you don't get on the green with two shots,
then you must rely on your chipping and putting to help you.
Because your short game is better at this level you will be able
to save par more often with your chipping and putting. However
your should be aiming to hit more fairways and green in
regulation especially on the par 4's.
How to play the par 5's:
There are two par 5's on this course, one on the front nine and
one on the back nine. Like Tiger Woods, you should always plan
to attack them to lower your score. The par 5's on our example
is reachable in three shots. However, even if you get on the
green in four shots, you can still take two putts and shoot
under 79.
